Robert Wang

I am Robert Wang, and I’m attempting to climb Mt Rainier to help raise money for “Asha for Education”.

What is Asha For Education ?

Asha is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing about socio-economic change in India primarily through education. Asha’s mission is to ensure that every child has access to an education that is meaningful. One of the many projects which will be helped by your donations is called GRAVIS, which aims to provide water security for villagers living in desert regions of Rajasthan. At the cost of $270, a large, underground concrete water tanks – “Taankas” – can be built and hold around 20,000 liters of water. It collects filtered rain water that when full can last a family of 6 for a half year. Other goals of GRAVIS include spreading literacy among children in the region, and improving health conditions of women and children through health education and the provision of health services.

Why do I climb Mt. Rainier ?

The Pacific Northwest has a way to make you appreciate the beauty of nature. Since moving to Seattle 3 years ago, getting outdoor became an integral part of my life. As a way to continuously challenging myself, I’ve decided to scale Mt. Rainier as it is definitely one of the greatest mountaineering challenges in the contiguous U.S. states. As a PNW icon, Mt. Rainier is a stratovolcano with the most topographical prominence in the contiguous US. It is also the highest mountain in the state of WA and cascades range. The moment I have set eyes on it, I was blown away by its beauty, and ever since then, summiting it has been on the top of my bucket list. Early this year, I was informed by a friend that Asha climbers are planning to summit Rainier to raise funds. After some research, I realized that this is the type of charity that I can get behind. The organization is 100% voluntary meaning that 100% of donations go to projects in India and that there is no administrative cost overhead. What better ways to achieve your personal dream than to do it for a cause?

Get Involved : How can you help ?

Simple : Donate

My personal goal is to raise $1500 apart from my own contributions $600 (without corporate matching) which is enough funds to build 7 Taankas!

Every dollar you donate goes directly to fund projects in India. Asha has a strong volunteer network that picks up the administrative costs.

Any donation you give will make an immense difference.

Thank you for supporting Asha for this worthy and noble cause.
