Hello all,
Sharda and I have joined Team Asha Biking Program which is a fundraiser for Asha for
Education. Team Asha Biking Program prepares for STP – Seattle to Portland Bike ride that is 206 miles long.
Inspired by many friends and kids (as little as 8 years old) who have taken this challenge in past, I was exploring why we should take this challenge. I recalled from my childhood that having a bike was a luxury for us kids. However, many of our elders used their bikes to make two ends, those were not fancy bikes like we use today, or accessories were not handy. They biked hard so they could give us good food, education and a place to live. While we are enjoying the fruits of their hard work, we should not forget those who are still in need. What could be a better way to help those in need while we enjoy riding a bike in a beautiful Pacific Northwest. Team Asha has an answer for that.
Team Asha’s dedicated volunteers train you with bike riding skills that starts from 6 miles’ bike ride on flat road and goes up to 100+ miles covering 5000 ft+ elevation. Rain or shine, they are available for in-class bike maintenance sessions as well as for day long bike ride. They help you for bike/accessories shopping, nutrition and navigation skills. We started our rides in early March, since that we have practiced every week, rain or shine with temperature varies from in low 40s to low 90s. I am amazed to see Sharda’s dedication and
commitment towards this fund raiser ride. She has managed to practice every weekend, if there is any unavoidable circumstances to join group practice, she would ride similar route mid-week or the next day.
Sharda and I have a combined goal of raising US $900 and spread awareness for the charitable organization ‘Asha for Education’. This organization began as an effort to provide basic education to underprivileged children throughout India. Asha is helping local communities combat the perils of illiteracy, poverty, and exploitation by providing them with tools and means of empowerment.
How can you help? You can help by contributing towards my modest fundraising goal amount for Asha for Education. Every dollar you donate will go a long way in making a huge positive impact on the lives of underprivileged children.
Today there are many organizations for us to choose from to donate our hard-earned dollars, so Why choose Asha for Education?
Besides their noble cause and work at the grass root levels, Asha is a “minimal overhead” organization, driven by volunteers (including the administrative expenses) ensuring that more than 95% of our donations are sent to their partner groups in India. Asha for Education has consistently secured a 100% rating on Charity Navigator, a well-established database that evaluates non-profit organizations on the basis of transparency, accountability and financial parameters
