Namaste! I am Radhey Shah and I am attempting to climb Mt. Rainier this summer.
An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous USA and is the highest mountain (14410 ft.) in the Cascade Range. It has always been a dream to climb this majestic mountain, and last year after seeing my friends climbing, I finally made it a personal goal to summit Mt. Rainier this summer. This is my way to celebrate the 100 years of National Park Service.
Although I did hiking in the pacific northwest earlier, I soon realized that Mountaineering is different. With different terrain, weather conditions and risks involved – it requires much more preparation, determination, dedication and snow-skills technical training.
With the help of Asha Seattle Climb volunteers (coordinated by Jasmine), I started my training in February which involved sustained strength and endurance conditioning, and hiking with heavy backpacks every weekend (and some weekdays after work). These long hikes are helping me stretch my limits – at the same time bringing me closer to mother nature and making me appreciate its beauty. So far I have hiked over 120 miles with combined elevation gain of58000 ft. – Mount Si, Mailbox Peak, Camp Muir, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams. Here is my hiking journey so far – https://sway.com/HCHhaLVtmA8BRtjk.
I feel very privileged and lucky that I got opportunities in life to fulfill some of my dreams. It’s time to give back to society. Let us support the noble cause of ASHA (meaning: hope) to empower under-privileged communities through education – to bring them to a state where they can start dreaming beyond the basic necessities and start fulfilling their dreams – just like us.
My goal this year is to raise $1500 (before company matching) apart from my own contributions of $600. I would really appreciate your help in reaching this goal. No amount is small, and 100% of your donation will go to the funding projects in India. GRAVIS website and its independent evaluation provides more information on the project.
Asha for Education has a 100 rating (perfect score) on charity navigator so you can be sure your donation is going to be used properly.
