Hello all,

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples – Mother Teresa

UPDATE Jul 19th 2021 : Finished STP in 3 days riding 70-81-55 miles respectively

During July/August of this year, I will be participating in the long distance bike ride from Seattle to Portland (STP), which is 206 miles long. This past year has been difficult for many of us, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges that underprivileged communities are facing. My main idea behind biking this year was to be able to support the comm unity in whatever little I can.  Due to continuing Covid pandemic, and the social distancing restrictions, the traditional outdoor ‘Seattle To Portland’ biking event has been replaced with a virtual race(vSTP). The restrictions also meant riding indoors.  I will be riding the same ~206 miles with ~5000ft elevation virtually with my fellow Asha bikers, riding indoors. I am training very hard to achieve my goal of completing the ride in 4-5 days!

As you may know, I have been supporting and volunteering for the non-profit organization, Asha for Education for many years now. My bigger goal for the vSTP ride is to raise funds and awareness for ‘Asha for Education’. This organization began as an effort to provide basic education to underprivileged children throughout India. Asha is helping local communities combat the perils of illiteracy, poverty and exploitation  by providing them with tools and means of empowerment. In addition to that, Asha has been supporting Covid Relief projects, and cyclone relief and rehabilitation efforts.

How can you help? You can help by contributing towards my modest goal of raising $550 for the organization. Every dollar you donate will go a long way in making a huge positive impact in lives of underprivileged children.

Today there are many organizations for us to choose from to donate our hard earned dollars, so Why choose Asha for Education?

Besides their noble cause and work at the grass root levels, Asha is a “minimal overhead” organization, driven completely by volunteers, hence ensuring that more than 95% of our donations are sent to their partner groups in India. Asha for Education has consistently secured a 100% rating on Charity Navigator, an independent non-profit evaluator, on the basis of transparency, accountability and financial parameters.
