As the Pacific Northwest heralds the arrival of summer, so too does the season of adventure for our family. This year, I’ve set my sights on a new horizon: the exhilarating world of snow mountaineering. The region’s majestic, snow-capped peaks beckon with their crisp air and tranquil beauty, offering a profound connection to the natural world. The call to venture into the wild, away from the daily grind, was an invitation I simply couldn’t resist.
The thrill of snow mountaineering lies in its challenges: navigating rugged landscapes, ascending steep inclines, and traversing narrow pathways. Each step is a pulse-quickening dance with nature, a test of endurance and skill that has undoubtedly pushed me to new heights.
Since the early whispers of spring, I’ve been in earnest preparation with the spirited team at Climb With ASHA – Seattle Chapter. My odyssey has been marked by over 25+ hikes, 185+ miles and ascending 60,000+ feet in elevation – a testament to weekend and weekday treks, including significant ascents of St. Helen’s (at 8,100 ft) and Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier (at 10,188 ft), with the tremendous guidance of Asha Lead Volunteers.
My ultimate goal awaits: the ascent of Mount Baker (10,781 ft -3,286 meters) in mid-July. This daring venture is not only a personal achievement but also a chance to make a difference. In partnership with the non-profit organization Asha, we’re raising funds to support the education of underprivileged children in India. Your support and contributions will propel us toward the summit and brighten the futures of those in need.
