Hello all,
On the weekend of July 12-13 2025, I will be participating in the long-distance cycling event from Seattle to Portland (STP). This is my first ever biking event! and that’s not all, it is a 206 miles long bike ride that requires rigorous multi-month training for endurance, focus and commitment. Successful training for such event requires support and guidance from seasoned folks who have done this before and are motivated to help others achieve their STP goal. This is where I got introduced to STP training group of Asha for Education.
Asha is a fully volunteer run non-profit organization which started with a focus on education for under privileged children in India, and is now helping local communities combat the perils of illiteracy, poverty, and exploitation by providing them with tools and
means of empowerment.
STP training team of Asha is a group of volunteers who dedicate their personal time other multiple months to prepare training routines, create ride routes, conduct various sessions to educate first time riders, and eventually guide riders during training rides. I started training with them in Feb 2025 and not only am I amazed by their passion and selfless commitment towards training others, I am inspired by their cause.
While I started training for STP with a goal to hopefully complete the ride successfully, I am now thankful to Asha STP volunteers for inspiring me in joining them in their effort to raise funds and awareness for the organization. Through Asha and even modest contribution, it is so easy to change life of a child in a way that has lasting positive impact to not just one child but to entire family. I especially like the transparency by Asha about the projects that receive funds, along with how the funds are directed and impact brought. The projects span across various parts of the country and cover different communities and causes.
Besides their noble cause and work at the grass root levels, Asha is a “minimal overhead” organization, driven by volunteers (including the administrative expenses) ensuring that more than 95% of donations are sent to their partner groups in India. Asha for Education has consistently secured a 100% rating on Charity Navigator, a well- established database that evaluates non-profit organizations on the basis of transparency, accountability and financial parameters.
Come join me in creating awareness about Asha for Education and contribute towards a modest fundraising goal amount for Asha for Education. Every dollar will go a long way in making a huge positive impact on the lives of underprivileged children. Click here to learn more about the projects supported by the Asha Seattle chapter, all
