Those who visit the Jackson Visitor Center at Mt. Rainier are familiar with John Muir greeting them on the steps to real paradise.“…the most luxurious and extravagantly beautiful of all the alpine gardens I have beheld in all my mountain-top wanderings…”. I do not think it is possible to more dramatically and yet accurately describe the beauty and majesty of the mountain.
Right from the time we moved to the Seattle area, Mt. Rainier has fascinated me, and I still get excited whenever we get a clear view of it during our daily commute. We have visited the National Park a handful of times, and every experience has been nothing short of breathtaking. I never thought that I would be climbing the mountain one day. In fact, I still kick myself for not having done it earlier. But hey! As they say, it is better late than never. So this year, I have decided, and made a commitment, to go where only 5000 people go every year; the summit of Mt. Rainier.
Asha for Education is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to socio-economic change in India, mainly using the medium of education of children. Here is a short video clipping on the previous Rainier climb by Asha. They do amazing work and I truly believe that good education can make a world of difference to under-privileged children in India. I am grateful for the chance I have gotten to combine my personal goal of climbing Mt. Rainier, with an opportunity to raise funds for Asha.
