About the fundraising effort

Asha for Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of basic education and various social causes in India.

One of the Asha run projects: GRAVIS is very close to my heart. I am targeting to raise $1000 for the  GRAVIS project to help the health and education support for extremely poor and underprivileged, especially young girls and women, who struggle on a regular basis just to survive on the scarcest of natural resources in the drought-ridden state of Rajasthan in India.

Rajasthan, where gender disparity, coupled with rampant droughts, ensure that little attention is paid to girls’ education . Girls often drop out to help increase household income or take over domestic responsibilities. They have to travel long distances to fetch water or firewood during droughts. Women too, are busy all day – collecting fuel wood, water and fodder. Further, the dry conditions and lack of water lead to severe health challenges, especially ones affecting women and children.

100% of the money raised through this effort will be used directly to support the GRAVIS project; which, I believe, is a small effort in our capacity in providing for the better future of young girls, trying to make a life in adverse conditions. Note that the donations will be tax exempt.
About me and my preparation for the climbs:
Since landing in Seattle in 2013, I have realized how blessed we are living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My love for mountains grew over the years with multiple smaller summits around Washington and Oregon, including the 9 hour haul of St. Helens summit and crevasse climbing in Alaska late last year.
This year I planned to push my endurance and fitness goals further harder by deciding to take on  serious technical mountain climbing and try to summit the big peaks: Mt Adams, Mt Baker and the biggest of all — Mt Rainier, standing tall and beautiful at 14000 ft.
Having trained for past 4 months with my 35lb backpack as companion almost every weekend on the I90 corridor and having successfully summitted Mt Adams and Mt Baker, I hope to summit Mt Rainier in mid-July.
Joining Asha was a perfect fit for this endeavor — to be able to climb along with an enthusiastic community as well as having the biggest satisfaction of doing a small part in supporting and helping some of the most underprivileged in the world to be able to achieve their dreams.
