This is my second time participating in Cascade’s Seattle to Portland (STP) bike ride. Due to the continuing Covid restrictions the traditional outdoor biking event is replaced with a virtual one (vSTP). Bikers have to complete 200 miles of riding over a period of 3 weeks which started on July 17th 2021.
I am very happy to report that just like my last attempt I completed my goal in two days, biking 100 miles each day on 17&18 July. What makes the ride extra special this year is my daughter Kimaya ( 10 years old) also participated in the event and finished her virtual STP in just a little over a week – half the time allotted by Cascade! She kicked off her rides with back to back long rides of 30-40 miles and then reached her goal by riding 15-20 miles every day for a week ( following hiking and climbing during the day every day).
It is amazing how the right tools, opportunity and encouragement go a long way in helping us achieve our goals regardless the age!
This is exactly why Kimaya and I have pledged our biking efforts towards vSTP to raise funds and awareness for the charitable organization ‘Asha for Education’. “Asha means Hope”, an apt name for an organization that is helping underprivileged communities in India combat the perils of illiteracy, poverty and exploitation. Asha has touched the lives of thousands of children, and their families, providing them with the required tools, opportunities, encouragement and most importantly hope for a better future!!
I come from a family where education was always a priority. We were raised with firm belief that good education is instrumental in shaping a person’s life. My husband and I are trying to instill the same values in our girls. Therefore, I did not have to think twice before aligning our efforts towards the organizations goals!!
How can you help? You can help by contributing towards our modest goal of raising $850 for the organization. Every dollar you donate will go a long way in making a huge positive impact in lives of underprivileged children.
Today there are many organizations for us to choose from to donate our hard earned dollars, so Why choose Asha for Education?
Besides their noble cause and work at the grass root levels, Asha is a “minimal overhead” organization, driven by volunteers (including the administrative expenses) ensuring that more than 95% of our donations are sent to their partner groups in India. Asha for Education has consistently secured a 100% rating on Charity Navigator, a well-established database that evaluates non-profit organizations on the basis of transparency, accountability and financial parameters
