Winter 2025 Update:

This year we have a small group of runners for Autumn as we experiment with the program and check on various changes. Official training is towards the 30th Nov 2025 Seattle Half Marathon, with a few people choosing the Full Marathon, and a few choosing the Santa Runs Tacoma HM on 13th Dec 2025. Still others have not commited to a race and are simply training to add distance and get the running mentorship.

The typical training week:
Mon  & Wed : 30mins strength / yoga / cross training (on one’s own)
Tue & Thu: 0.5hr to 1.5hr run (on one’s own or meetup with others based on convenience)
Fri: Rest
Sat: Long run with Team Asha (at various locations around town)
Sun: Rest or Cross Train

Funds raised in 2025 will support Vikasana

Vikasana in Shimoga district, Karnataka brings school and literacy to children of migrant daily-wager laborers who don’t stay in a place long enough to give their children stability. The kids begin to work early (child labor) alongside their parents to make ends meet. Vikasana helps them break out of their cycle of poverty and helps them find meaning and aspiration. Their bridge school aims to rehabilitate kids and get them back to formal education. They also have an agricultural initiative to re-teach farming techniques to the migrant labour community so that they can start to sustain themselves better. Grass roots understanding of the area suggests that this is a sustainable way to reduce the challenges faced by vulnerable people in this region.

Every dollar donated will go to the project, Asha is a near-zero overhead organization (3% overhead to cover the credit card fee). No amount is too small.

2025 Team Asha:

Asha for Education has created Team Asha as a fundraiser and awareness raiser for our mission: catalyzing socio-economic change through education. We hope to raise at least $3,000 this year. If you would like to support the initiative or the entire team rather than individual runners:

Fundraising Commitment by each athlete:

Individual Commitment: $400 / mile (typical)
Deadline for fundraising: Within 1 month after your event, or end of year if you have not committed to an event

Important Note: Goals are achieved only with committed effort. Please match the effort of our volunteers, mentors and our coach by doing your part. Your friends and family will learn about a credible cause through you and they can take some action to show you their support. These increase your commitment to your goal and help you with your weekly effort in training. Commit to play your part in bringing socio-economic change in the world & follow through on your deadline. Team Asha mentors will help you.

Coaching and Mentorship:

Our official Coach Sankar is on standby as a backup with certified knowledge on all things running related. This season, coaching and mentorship will be primarily offered by Anjana & Dr. Sridhar on Saturdays during group runs.

This year, the program is intended to be highly customized. The goal is for one-on-one interactions with Anjana & Sridhar with strong communication from each athlete regarding their training, life situations and obstacles as well as their concerns and needs. The 2025 program is designed to be a small & interactive group. Benefits cannot be delivered in a broadcast-style group-program format and require the runner to follow the training plan and communicate for customized adjustments to the program when they are unable to do so.

The goal of the mentorship is to build a season of strong running, with tips and tricks for injury-free running as well as improving your overall fitness, health and performance. The nature of mentorship is intended to address the soft sides of running as well as the technical and gear: how to deal with both mind and motivation for discipline, overcoming injury and fatigue, flexing around life situations and incorporating running and fitness into your daily life so it becomes and remains a natural normal. Mentorship will also address how to think about and raise funds.

The Cause

Asha for Education is a secular organization dedicated to socio – economic change in India by focusing on basic education. Asha is a 100% volunteer driven non-profit organization.

A diverse group of highly-committed volunteers from each of the chapters take personal interest in researching and identifying education-related projects in India, mobilizing the necessary funds and nurturing them right from inception to when it is fully functional. Although the primary focus is on education, Asha also addresses issues affecting human life such as health care, environmental concerns and women’s issues. Over the years, Asha has succeeded in touching the lives of thousands of children through its various educational initiatives and projects. Asha will continue to evolve in keeping with the needs of the hour and the needs of our country.
