Team Asha Running Program

Team Asha is a fundraising program where a participant establishes a fitness goal (Ex: “I want to run a 10k”) and Asha offers structured training in return for a commitment to raise funds to educate underprivileged kids in India.

Asha commits to train you, mentor & monitor your progress, offers you resources and plugs you into a community of like minded people with positive energy. You commit your time and effort toward the training, and to raise funds to educate underprivileged children.

Team Asha’s running program has a certified Coach and offers both strength training and yoga to prevent or manage injuries. It doesn’t matter of you are a veteran ultra runner looking to do a triathlon or newbie wanting to run a 3k. We have the whole spectrum of people on the team and our Coach and mentors know how to support you towards your goals.

Any fitness goal and training program offers the joy of personal achievement. Many running events today raise funds for a cause. What is unique about Team Asha’s Running program is that it raises your own commitment because your effort directly helps educate a child. Your family and friends want to support you, and when you run for cause, they can directly engage. There is always a greater sense of accountability and contentment in our lives when we connect with a purpose larger than ourselves.

We have found this to be a win-win formula for over 2 decades with the runner finding a positive community of health and wellness, increasing their own accountability by announcing their intention to their friends and family, increasing awareness about Asha through the process and connecting into a solid, credible and high-impact non-profit organization. Asha is able to increase awareness about our work without paying for ad-campaigns or marketing and we can continue to channel 97% of contributions (save credit card fees) to the schools we support.

Coaching

Here is the bio of our Running Coach, Sankara Narayanan

    • Accomplished runner with consistent running history of 12+ years
    • Certified Distance Running Coach – Level 1 – Certified RRCA (Road Running Club of America)
    • 200-hour Certified Yoga instructor from Yoga Alliance and Bellevue Community College
    • 300-hour Certified Yoga Instructor specializing in Advanced Sequences and Breathing practices from SVYASA University Bangalore

Yoga

We are unable to offer Yoga for Winter 2024.
For other seasons, our instructors are:

  • Spoorthi Gururaj
    • 200-hour Certified Yoga instructor from Yoga Alliance
  • Subha Simhadri
    • A 500 hour trained Yoga teacher and a NAMA recognized certificate holder in Ayurvedic Nutrition.
  • Vidya Annigeri
    • An Ayurveda Physician in India and 200-hour Certified Yoga instructor from Yoga Alliance
